TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Former Tyler Legacy stand out running back Jamarion Miller has taken his powerful skills to the University of Alabama.
Miller was the No. 6 running back in the nation for the class of 2022, and the all-time leading rusher at Legacy. He joined a program with rich winning history with hopes of making it to the NFL.
Miller originally signed to play under the coaching of Nick Saban, but after two years, Saban announced his retirement. Miller was surprised with the news and wasn't able to grasp Saban's announcement.
Former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer took over for Saban, and Miller noticed a difference right away.
"Coach Saban was old school," Miller said. "Coach DeBoer knows more about this generation and how the college system is working now."
He said the "standard is still the standard" and they grew to like DeBoer.
Miller has scored seven touchdowns, and he rushed for over 800 yards since he got to Alabama in the fall of 2022. His stats are impressive since not many players get much playing time when they join the program because of the plethora of talent.
"It's a completely different game from high school. The only thing I knew from high school was, run this route we'll throw you the and when the quarterback is handing you the ball, you just run and score," Miller said. "Now, when you go to college, you have to read the defense, etc. It's a lot that go into it but, I feel pretty good about this season."
Jamarion wants to represent Tyler well so that he can give back to the community he grew up in.
"Hopefully one day, like sometime at the end of this year or next year, I could go back and just do something with the little kids," Miller said. "Probably start, a little small youth camp, just something, just to bring the community together."
Miller and the rest of the Bama team will travel to Death Valley to play rival LSU.
