UNDER THE LIGHTS: Sabine Cardinals looking to repeat season-opening win against Spring Hill Panthers

The Spring Hill Panthers and Sabine Cardinals have played each other in every season-opener for the last four years.

LONGVIEW, Texas — Sabine will travel to Longview to play Spring Hill in their season opener this Friday. The Panthers and the Cardinals have played in week one every year for the past four years.

The Cardinals won last year's matchup 64-20 and are confident in their abilities to do it again.

"I feel really confident about our offensive line play and defensive line play," said Coach Cody Gilbert. "We've got a much bigger roster than what we've had in numbers and in size. We just have bigger kids when you're playing with 18-year-olds compared to playing with 16-year-olds. We have four wide receivers, and we have a couple guys in the rotation."

Sabine is led by quarterback Colt Sparks. He's committed to Texas Tech to play tight end, but for now he's the starting quarterback and utility player for the Cardinals.

"He's a hard worker; he leads by example in our program," said Gilbert. "He gives our team a ton of confidence in the plays that he's able to make with his arm and and with his feet. We play him at quarterback and there's some times where he may line up at wide receiver and to create some some matchup issues for us. When you have that type of versatility, you just try to create the best that you can for your team."

The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
