TATUM, Texas — The Tatum Eagles' 2024 campaign started off with bang as they got a big W in Week 1 over the No. 2 Winnsboro Raiders, 29-14.
That win set them up nicely in the #bEASTTexas Fabulous 15 Poll rankings. The next week, Tatum took down the Daingerfield Tigers, 34-14.
When Week 3 rolled around, the Eagles were met with their first loss of the season. Newtown inched by Tatum 32-30.
Tatum head coach Whitney Keeling spoke with CBS19 about the lack of consistency from the special teams in last week's loss.
"We were unfortunate Friday, and came a couple of points short," said Keeling ."It's the first time in my career, we actually scored more touchdowns than any other team and lost. Special teams got us. We missed every extra point. So we have some work to do in the kicking game."
Keeling knows they need a reliable kicking game to come out victorious in Week 4 against the West Rusk this Friday.
"So this week, obviously it's going to be a focal point," said Keeling. They do a lot of good stuff offensively and defensively. They fly around to the ball, and so it's going to be a really good game for us and I anticipate a great atmosphere."
Tatum will host West Rusk Friday with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
