KILGORE, Texas — It was a big day for Kilgore College women's basketball on Wednesday afternoon, with three of their top athletes signing their official letters of intent.
The program held a signing day for their three sophomores, who all signed on to play at Division I mid-major programs.
Perina Leime signed to play basketball at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, a place that she said truly felt like home.
"I chose to go there because I wanted to follow my heart and go where God was telling me. I wanted to play where I'll be shown a lot of love and (be) part of a community and a family," Leime said. "It was a great journey here at Kilgore. I've been surrounded by incredible teammates and staff, especially the community that has helped me to grow as a person and a player."
Tyler Legacy alumni Nyla Inmon decided to stay within Texas on her next journey, and signed to play at Sam Houston State University.
"I'm going to Sam Houston State because that's always been my dream school ever since I was little," Inmon said. "Kilgore helped prepare me for this moment by putting me through situations, decisions and leadership for me to go to the collegiate level."
Kayla Hampton chose to return to her home state and committed to the prestigious Tulane University in New Orleans.
"Being able to have these connections with my teammates and coaches was so special," Hampton said. "I was able to get baptized here. I was able to get my grades up. I was able to just get better here."
It was a special day for head coach Stephanie Williams, who plays a big part in helping these women grow up during their time as Lady Rangers. It also gives her an immense sense of pride to see these girls continue on to the next level.
Williams said it's a testament to the hard work of every girl signing at the table on Wednesday as well as every member of the team and coaching staff that helped make their dreams come true. It also shows why Kilgore College is such a special place to be.
"I'm proud of the fact that my sophomores really trusted me and let me guide them into their careers. Now they're seeing the success and trusting the process. I'm excited for all the hard work that they put in," Williams said. "We have so much support staff here at Kilgore. People know your names, they come to the games, and they come and watch the practices. It's just a really big family here."
