Zema Williams -- better known as Chief Zee -- has died, according to Tony Wylie of the Washington Redskins.

The 75-year-old man is well known as the Redskins' unofficial mascot and superfan.

He has attended nearly every home game for Washington's football team since 1978 -- only missing a few for funerals, The Washington Post reported in a profile of Williams back in 2013.

Wearing a Native American headdress, he spent game days zipping around FedEx field on his motorized scooter that team owner Dan Snyder purchased for him.

Williams lived in Oxon Hill in an apartment that's a shrine to his favorite team.

Earlier this year, Redskins fans raised money to help Williams from being evicted from his apartment.

A vigil is planned at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the stadium.

The Redskins issued a statement about Williams Tuesday evening:

"The Washington Redskins will always appreciate Zema Williams' unique passion and dedication to our football team and his fellow Washington Redskins' fans."

This is a developing story and we'll have more information as it becomes available.
