TYLER, Texas — Olympian, Tara Davis-Woodhall can officially call herself a World Champion after Sunday's performance.
She soared to a gold medal finish this weekend in Glasgow, Scotland where the Indoor World Championships were held. Davis-Woodhall dominated the field, posting an impressive 7.07m jump.
Tara is known for her theatrics when she's competing. She's been seen dancing to the stadium music, screaming and engaging the crowd before jumps. When she took her final jump on Sunday, already the World Champion, she broke down and fell to her knees in gratitude. She was able to upgrade her silver medal from last years season, to a gold.
"I was thinking holy crap I won," Davis-Woodhall said. "Just to perfectly execute what I wanted to do, that's when the emotions got to me, like all that hard work definitely pays off."
Tara graduated from the University of Texas in 2021 with many accolades like winning NCAA Long Jump Indoors and Outdoors, and breaking the collegiate record with a jump of 7.14m.
The Longhorn Alumni showed out at this years Word Championship racking up three gold titles. " I wish I threw horns up when I won," Davis-Woodhall said. "I could not believe how well University of Texas athletes did, just goes to show Texas makes sprinters."
She has East Texas ties with her mom and grandmother spending time in Gilmer and Longview. She wants to continue to inspire the next generation with what she's accomplished.
"Always keep a smile on your face even through the hard times," Davis-Woodhall said. "There's light at the end of the tunnel, we can always get stuck in them moment but you can always go further."
Davis-Woodhall is already looking to score gold in the 2025 Summer Olympics.
