LONGVIEW, Texas — Haynes King, son of Longview head football coach John King, made all of East Texas proud on Saturday. King and his Yellow Jackets took down the fourth ranked, undefeated Miami Hurricanes this afternoon 28-23, securing a bowl game berth in the process.
King only threw six passes because it was his first game back after missing two in a row with a right shoulder injury. However, he was 6-6 including a touchdown, and added over 90 rushing yards with a touchdown on the ground, as well.
Miami's undefeated record coming into today included three second half comebacks, so GT was able to fend off a resilient bunch.
The Yellowjackets are now bowl eligible in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2013-2014, all with King leading the offense.
