FORT WORTH, Texas — The O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas Motor Speedway is the latest sporting event in the U.S. postponed due to the coronavirus.
The NASCAR Cup Series event was scheduled for March 29 with qualification and practices on March 27-28.
“Considering the circumstances that NASCAR had no choice but to postpone the race, we obviously support that because public safety comes first,” said Eddie Gossage, Texas Motor Speedway President and General Manager.
NASCAR has not announced a reschedule date. Races at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Homestead Miami Speedway were postponed on Friday. NASCAR was one of the last sports organizations to postpone events.
“As soon as we have information on the rescheduled date, we will share it with our fans but we encourage them to hold onto their tickets and plan to join us for the rescheduled O’Reilly Auto Parts 500," Gossage said. "It’s always the right time to do the right thing and we’re going to do right by our fans.”
If you have a ticket, you may received an event credit for the full amount paid plus an additional 20%. The credit can be used for admissions at any Speedway Motorsports-owned track.
You may also receive a full refund.
So far, NASCAR has run only four races this years at Daytona, Las Vegas, Auto Club and Phoenix. Joey Logano has won two of the four races with Denny Hamlin and Alex Bowman winning two remaining events. Kevin Harvick is leading in points.
