UT Tyler athletic director set to retire

Patterson has lead the athletics department since 2001, developing 18 NCAA programs and leading the transition to Division II competition.

TYLER, Texas — UT Tyler has announced that Vice President for Athletics, Dr. Howard Patterson, will retire in August. 

Patterson has lead the athletics department since 2001, developing 18 NCAA programs and leading the transition to Division II competition. 

According to the website, the Patriots won seven National Championships, 67 American Southwest Conference Titles, and produced 97 All-American selections during his tenure. UT Tyler softball just won its first NCAA Division II National Championship this past week in Florida.

Patterson will retire as the longest-serving Athletics Director among UT System athletic programs.

Chris Bizot, Head Coach for Men’s and Women’s Tennis, has been named Interim Athletic Director while a national search is conducted for a new athletic director.
