Spring Hill's dream season comes to end in state semifinals

Spring Hill went head-to-head with Calallen at UFCU Disch-Falk in Austin.

AUSTIN, Texas — The dream season for the Spring Hill Panthers has come to an end following a 3-2 loss to Corpus Christi Calallen in the 4A DI state semi-final game.

Calallen got on the board in the 1st inning when Tress Vasquez tripled to center field, scoring Chase Lynch to take the 1-0 lead.

Spring Hill tied the game in the top of the 4th inning with a Mason Barnes double to right center, scoring Dakylan Johnson. 

In the bottom of the 6th inning, Calallen took the 2-1 lead after Drayson Gamez singled to right field to score Sebastian Dennis. 

With one out in the top of the 7th, Spring Hill's Grant Burton knocked in Dakylan Johnson, who was pinch running, with a single to left field to tie the game, 2-2. 

In the bottom of the 8th inning, Calallen's Drayton Mitchell singled to left field and later scored after a throwing error by Spring Hill, to walk off the Panthers 3-2. 

Mason Barnes led the Panthers, going 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI, a double and a walk. Grant Burton finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI. Cayden Rhodes got the start on the mound, throwing five innings, allowing three hits with one earned run. Landon Bartell came in relief in the sixth inning, allowing three hits and one earned run. 

The Panthers finish the season, 30-11-1.
