ARLINGTON - On December 16, 2017, the Longview football team lost a heartbreaking state semifinal game to Waco Midway.
364 days later, the Lobos were back in the state semifinals and took advantage of the 2nd chance to make it to the championship game.
Longview jumped out to an early lead against Amarillo Tascosa, scoring just 2 minutes into the game. Over the next quarter and a half, Longview was dominant. The Lobos were up 35-7 late in the 2nd quarter and led 35-14 at the half.
The Rebels did come out strong in the 3rd and 4th quarters and they got to within 3 points in the final 2 minutes of the game.
But Longview was able to recover a late onside kick and run out the clock. And Longview picks up a hard-fought 45-42 win.
That win puts Longview in the state championship game for the first time since 2009. And in that game, they'll meet Beaumont West Brook. The title game will be on Saturday (Dec. 22) at 3:00 PM at AT&T Stadium
