KILGORE, Texas — Nothing worth having ever comes easy.
That quote was sure to be on the Kilgore Bulldogs' minds when they set their 2024 preseason schedule.
The Bulldogs open up the season with a very tough four-game stretch before district play.
Their opponents include:
- Carthage
- Whitehouse
- Gilmer
- Pleasant Grove
And Kilgore hopes the mental and physical battle will prepare them to dominate in the "District of Doom."
Head coach Clint Fuller says star cornerback and Michigan commit Jayden Sanders has great character and he also a high-achiever on the academic end.
"He comes from a great family," Coach Fuller. "And then on the field, he's a great football player because of his intellect, but also because of his work ethic."
Sanders says he's pumped to be on this ride with his friends for his senior year.
"Some goals I have for the season is, last year I dropped a whole lot of interceptions, I want to complete more interceptions," Sanders said. "Also, I'm just leading by example and then talking to everybody. I'm getting out my comfort zone because, when you're Kilgore everybody want to beat Kilgore. "
Coach Fuller the team's motto is Effort, Attitude and Team (EAT).
"So that's kind of been one of the one of the foundations of our program, going back to the off season," Coach Fuller said. "But we want to give great effort. We want to have a great attitude, and we want to be have a team-first mentality."
Kilgore kicks off their season Friday, Aug. 30, at Carthage.
