CARTHAGE, Texas — The New York Yankees, the Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots...What do these teams have in common? One word -- DYNASTY.
And you can go ahead and put the Carthage Bulldogs in that category.
Last year, the Bulldogs failed to secure their 10th state title in program history after suffering a 47-44 loss in the state quarterfinals to the eventual state champion Gilmer Buckeyes. And that's added more fuel to their fire this season.
"We had a nice season, but we wouldn't call it a success around here," head football coach Scott Surratt said. "The kids know it, fans know it, coaches know it. It's just we want to be number one at the end."
Carthage comes in at No. 1 in Dave Campbell's Texas Football's 4A-DII Top 10 preseason rankings, as well as the #bEASTTexas Fabulous 15 - a spot they've become quite comfortable in.
Carthage will kick off their 2024 season at home against Kilgore on Friday, Aug. 30.
