ETPCU Player of the Week: Chapel Hill's Cameron Kelley

Cameron Kelley is a dynamic dual-sport athlete known for his powerful dunks on the court.

CHAPEL HILL, Texas — Cameron Kelley isn't much of a talker, but he let's his athleticism do the talking for him.

He's a dual sport athlete representing the blue and yellow in both football and basketball. It's currently hoops season and Kelley has been showing off his abilities to dunk. On paper, he's 6'5 but Coach Johnson argues that he's at least 6'6 and expands on his powerful abilities.

"Cam is a phenomenal athlete. He can run, he can jump, he’s got good motor skills," Coach Johnson said. " He's a once in a lifetime athlete."

Cameron thinks that dunking is the easy part, and the only difficulty is figuring out which one he'll do.

"It’s all a mindset but as I'm approaching the goal it’s like five different options in my head," Kelley said. "Which way I want to dunk it, how I want to dunk it, do I want to do it fancy, or basic."

Kelley was able to perform a 360 degree dunk on Tuesday against Gilmer sending the Chapel Hill fans into a frenzy. His favorite NBA player is Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks because he sees a lot of himself in the way the Greek athlete plays and in his build. Kelley also looks up to his uncle who played basketball for Texas Tech and got the opportunity to play in the NBA against Shaquille O'Neal.

"He tells me to just keep going and I make it look easy on the court," Kelley said.

Chapel Hill's boys basketball coach wears many hats at the home of the Bulldogs. He is the also the recruiting coordinator, and offensive coordinator for football. He used to play for Chapel Hill in the past and has watched his athletes grow into the players they are today.

Chapel Hill has a youth basketball program called, Little Dribblers where the Varsity players coach 3rd-6th grade ballers to theirwe  dreams.

"Those young kids they look up to kids like Cam," Johnson said. "I remember when he was little and the kids back in the day when I'd help them so we want to continue that tradition."

I asked Cam if he learns anything from the kids he coaches. With a smile, he said "Yes, I learned that I'm very competitive and I like to win."
