High school basketball recap - Tuesday, Jan. 8

There were some good East Texas battles between Lee and Longview and the Big Sandy boys put on a show.

TYLER, Texas — It's tough to believe but there's just about a month left in the high school basketball regular season.

In 11-6A, the teams are about halfway through district play. And on Tuesday night, there were a pair of East Texas rivalry games as Lee played Longview.

In the girls game, the Lady Raiders jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they beat the Lady Lobos 57-38.

On the boys side, this game was tied at the half, but Longview used a huge 3rd quarter to blow the game open and they ended up beating Lee 63-42.

Down in 2A, the Big Sandy boys are ranked 5th in the state. And on Tuesday night, we found out why.

The Wildcats had one of their best performances in school history as they crushed Hawkins. Big Sandy got a school-record 58 points from Josiah Johnson and, as a team, they scored a school record 114 points as they beat Hawkins 114-56.
