DALLAS — LIV Golf is making its North Texas debut, with plenty of cash on the line.
The tour announced on Wednesday that it's bringing its season-ending team championship to Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton on Sept. 20-22.
The tournament, which features a total purse of $50 million, will be the first stop in North Texas for the polarizing Saudi-funded LIV tour, whose players have split from the PGA Tour over the last two years.
LIV and the PGA Tour had announced plans to merge last summer, but no deal has been agreed on yet.
The LIV team championship is the biggest score yet for Maridoe, which opened in 2017.
The challenging layout, which can stretch up to 7,817 yards, has been a popular training facility for Dallas-area tour pros, and the club has already hosted several top amateur events in its short history, including 2019 Trans-Mississippi Amateur Championship, the 2019 Texas mid-am championship, and the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational.
The LIV tournament will be the first pro tour event held at Maridoe.
"Maridoe is designed to be an enjoyable but demanding member’s club while always ready to provide a great test for elite golfers to entertain golf enthusiasts," Maridoe Golf Club founder Albert Huddleston said in a statement.
Unlike the PGA Tour, LIV features a team format. For the Maridoe tournament, the teams will be seeded 1-13 based on their regular season finish and compete in matchplay, with the top three teams getting a first-round bye.
Bryson DeChambeau, who finished second in the PGA Championship this past weekend, is the most notable LIV golfer with Dallas ties. The California native went to SMU and currently lives in Dallas.
DeChambeau in Wednesday's announcement said he's excited to "bring LIV Golf's electrifying energy" to North Texas.
