GILMER, Texas — Will Henderson has spent his high school athletic career at Gilmer collecting hardware.
In 2023, Henderson won the state championship in the 100M along with contributed big points to the overall championship win as well.
In the fall he was key to the Gilmer football team making a state run, including scoring five touchdowns in one game and a 65-yard touchdown in the state championship game. The Buckeyes would win the 4A-DII state championship 28-26 over Bellville.
Henderson is an exceptional athlete, in both football and track racking up two state championship rings in two different sports.
His 2024 track season has gotten off to a fast start. He opened up the track season running a new personal best of 10.27 in the 100M.
"I was not expecting that, and just to see I beat my record with a bad start," Henderson said. "I can fix my errors and go that means I can go sub 10 this year, and I'm happy about that."
Although Will has made his impact in two separate sports, his focus is on his teammates. "I want my teammates to experience that {winning} because some people will never get to experience winning a ring," Henderson said. "Two rings is great, and this year it could be three, so three rings before I leave for college would make me happy."
Gilmer Head Track Coach Octavius Parker said he's a very determined kid.
"When you try to critique him, he doesn't get upset or get mad, he's always looking for the next thing that's going to make him better," Parker said.
