Game of the Week preview: When the Bulldogs have the ball

The Bulldogs bring out the stars.

CARTHAGE, Texas — Few teams in Texas know winning like the Carthage Bulldogs.

Head coach Scott Surratt knows the secret, and it's not something they put in the water, the Bulldog’s trick comes from the stars, that is, the ones on the sides of the Dallas cowboys helmets.

“We’ve had so many hall of famers from the cowboys come talk to us” Surratt said. “I could count probably 30 Cowboys down here and its been special.”

The nine-time state champion Bulldogs have football legends like Michael Irvin, Randy white and Vince Young stop by on the regular to hang with the team, and it makes a difference to the players.

“They'll come down and speak to the team,” Surratt said. “These players especially nowadays, you cant hear enough good voices.”

The latest star to stop by will be Cowboys legend Tony Dorsett, who is set to make an appearance at a pregame tailgate in their up coming game against Center.

He’ll have to give a big time pregame speech to prepare the Bulldogs for the 5-0 Center Bulldogs.

“You know, number one, you can they're very physical at three levels. All three levels, they got a really good players at all three levels, on defense and offense," Surratt said. "They average 30 something points, so they're very solid team, and we're looking forward to their arrival to us, and so it'll be exciting.”

Underneath and in front of the Texas stars Friday night, Carthage will look to tack that sixth win onto their record, something the players on the current Cowboys aspire for too.
