TYLER, Texas — Carthage’s Kip Lewis made a statement for Oklahoma in Saturday’s game against No. 7 Alabama.
The Sooners were leading 17-3 in the third quarter when Lewis, a linebacker, intercepted Jalen Milroe’s pass near the left sideline and returned it for a 49-yard touchdown, making the score 24-3.
That would be the final score, as the Sooners defeated Alabama and prevented them from reaching the SEC Championship. The Tide’s loss helped No. 10 Georgia clinch a spot in the conference championship, to play the winner of Texas vs. Texas A&M.
For the 26th consecutive season, Oklahoma is bowl-bound.
They’ll face off against Louisiana State University in their inaugural SEC season finale on Saturday.
