East Texas roots shine in college football playoffs

East Texas football talent is taking center stage in this year’s college football playoffs, with 11 athletes from the region representing their hometowns.

TYLER, Texas — East Texas is leaving its mark on college football’s biggest stage this year, with 11 athletes from the region competing in the college football playoffs.

From small-town Friday Night Lights to powerhouse programs, these players embody the grit, heart, and tradition that define "bEast" Texas football.

Arizona State standout C.J. Fite, a Tatum High School alum, is among those representing East Texas.

"I wouldn’t say I’m putting Tatum on the map," Fite said, humbly mentioning the legacy of great players before him. "But I would say I have that East Texas pride. It feels good to put on for Tatum and East Texas on this stage."

In Arizona State’s first year in the Big 12, the Sun Devils, led by head coach Kenny Dillingham, made a historic playoff run. For Fite, this moment is the culmination of years of hard work and a dream realized.

"A couple of years ago, I was watching these games from my living room. Now, to be part of the process and play on this platform, it surpasses everything," Fite said.

No matter which team fans are rooting for, East Texas is well-represented and ready to make waves.
