EAST TEXAS PROFESSIONAL CREDIT UNION PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Palestine's Tony Sanchez

Sanchez scored all three goals against Chapel Hill to secure the win on Tuesday.

PALESTINE, Texas — Tony Sanchez reached a monster goal against Chapel Hill on Tuesday to secure the Wildcats win. Palestine won 3-2 over the Bulldogs and all three goals were made by sophomore Tony Sanchez.

Coach John Absalom made Sanchez the team captain even though he's only a sophomore.

"He’s a great athlete. He’s got almost 50 goals this year and about 30 something assists. (You) just can play him everywhere," Absalom said. "I don't normally have a captain as a sophomore but he’s just that type of kid."

The Wildcats went to the state championship final last season but fell to Hidalgo. This year, they're looking to rewrite that narrative, but the pressure is on.

"Everyone expects us to be better because we lost some seniors and key players," Sanchez said. "I believe we could do it, we just have to push hard."

Palestine faces Panther Creek this Friday.
