ARP, Texas — For DeMarvion Overshown and his mother, Felecia Williams, the road has been far from easy.
The young linebacker’s season-ending injury is a devastating blow in his second year in the NFL. But despite the setbacks, Overshown’s resilience and tenacity shines through.
Williams, who goes to every Cowboys home game, missed the play where Overshown was injured early in the fourth quarter.
Friends and family confirmed that the injured player was her son. She explained, that she texted him for an update, and he responded, "They're not telling me anything, but send prayers." Instantly, she knew something was wrong.
“As a mother, it’s really been rough,” Williams emotionally shared. “I know my son has a dream, and he’s honestly working hard to live out that dream. So, it’s hard, because we’re in this together. All I can do is back him up, support him and keep him encouraged.”
Overshown suffered torn ACL, MCL and PCL in his right knee and would need surgery, but his unwavering positivity has been commendable during another tough year.
“It’s not a whole lot that keeps him from smiling,” Williams said. “I’ve hardly ever seen him without a smile. Even with these injuries, he’s yet smiling.”
And that optimism comes through publicly as well on social media.
"Wouldn't want this for anyone else! One of God's toughest soldiers...Keep me in your prayers," Overshown tweeted Monday night,
His mother added on his positive attitude.
“He’s just one of those God-given children that’s going to have a smile on his face,” Williams added.
Williams gave an update about the status of Overshown's road to recovery.
"He will have surgery either later this week or early next week," Williams said.
She also plans on traveling to be with him for his surgery, ensuring he feels her love and support every step of the way.
