UNDER THE LIGHTS PREVIEW | GAME OF THE WEEK: Whitehouse vs. Marshall - When the Wildcats have the ball

They've locked up a playoff spot, now the Wildcats are shooting for seeding.

WHITEHOUSE, Texas — This week could’ve been a breeze for the Wildcats.

They locked up a playoff spot while they were relaxing on their bye week. They could just take their upcoming game easy, and rest up for the post season.

But Head Coach Kyle Westerberg knows his Cats get just one life in the playoffs, and they don’t want to waste it.

“This week's about seeding," Westerberg said. "There's a lot of stuff out there, and so it's a big game.”

The Wildcats are currently No. 4 in a division that has got some real heavyweights, including the Marshall team they’re facing this week.

But Westerberg knows his Wildcats have what it takes to win Friday. He knows, because he raised them that way since they were little kittens.

"This is the freshman, first freshman class I got to coach when I first got here," Westerberg said. "In that first season, we were 2-8, and kept them all together, and they had a solid freshman year. A majority of them played on the varsity as sophomores, and a few of them played on the JV as sophomores, but the core came together as juniors and now as seniors."

They're all grown up and now they got to do grown up things on the gridiron.

"This year's goal is to try to go 11-plus, we want to play not just 11 games and be done. We want to go, try to play more football games," Westerberg said.

Westerberg's teams have been one and done in the playoffs for the last two seasons, but there's a famous saying about third tries for a reason.

"These kids have came to fight every week," Westerberg said. "And so credit to those guys, credit to our coaching staff to put them in the right spot."
