CBS19 Game of the Week Preview: When New Diana has the ball

New Diana is a perfect 6-0 on the season.

NEW DIANA, Texas — New Diana is perfect.

They haven't lost, and lately they've barely given up any points.

"I don't know that I expected as many points as we're doing now, or even as many as few points as we're giving up, but I did expect us pretty much to be 5-0 to start. That was my goal," Head Coach Jason Pitts said.

The Eagles' high powered presence on both ends of the ball is rooted in trust, which is easy to do when the team is a family. Lots of football teams claim their bonds are as tight as family, but New Diana takes it literally.

"There's a lot of family on this squad," Pitts said. "There's the quarterback and the receiver have another brother that plays, he's a defensive lineman and a backup quarterback for us. And then Angel [Ruiz] stepbrother is an inside linebacker with him."

For those not related by blood, they are connected through their community.

"Most of these kids are from here, like, born and bred, and it's just a good group that's played together for a long time," Pitts said. "They know each other really well."

It the chemistry shows on the field too, especially on the scoreboard. The Eagles offense racked up a season high 70 points in their game against West Rusk.

Their game against Troup will be one of their biggest tests of the season though, the Tigers have rattled off five wins in a row.

"They're gonna have stuff ready to go for us, and they've got some athletes and some speed to go along with ours," Pitts said. "So we just need to work our game plan and play as close to flawless as we can,"
