TYLER, Texas — It's down right freezing outside and there's nothing I'd like to do more than go home and crank up the heat.
This is one of the times of the year when electricity and gas bills skyrocket, but luckily, there are plenty of resources for those in need of a little help paying that heat bill.
One great resource is the Greater East Texas Community Action Program.
Office Manager Pamela Hoye said this is one of their busiest times of year.
"Normally we see six people per person per day but if a person if off or there's an emergency, we can see up to eight," said Hoye.
GET-CAP pays electric and/or gas bills for people who met certain income and family size restrictions.
"To qualify we do need certain documentation such as state I-D, income verification, birth certificate or voter ID if the person is over 18. We also need birth certificates and immunization records for any kids in the household," Hoye said.
The Greater East Texas Community Action Program has locations in 27 East Texas counties.
It doesn't matter what your utility company is either, they help with all of them.
