TEXARKANA, TX. (KTBS) - An 82-year old woman is killed after being trapped in a house fire Monday morning in the Liberty Eylau community.

Bowie County officials have identified the victim as Camille Williamson.

The house fire happened just before 7 a.m. in the 500 block Eylau Loop road.

After arriving on scene, firefighters began search and rescue efforts immediately, but they say the smoke was just too heavy.

Donna Mudford lived right next door to Camille Williamson.

"When I opened my garage door, I could see the flames coming off the roof of her house," said Mudford.

She watched from her yard as fire crews worked hastily to find her neighbor.

"I was kind of worried. I figured by the look of things and her condition that she didn't make it," said Mudford.

When Liberty Eylau Volunteer Firefighters arrived on scene, the house was already full of heavy smoke.

Fire Chief Stan Cossey says Williamson was eventually located in a back bedroom.

"She was on the phone with central dispatchers trying to give them a description of where she was in the house, but due to all the stuff in the house it was hard to actually locate her," explained Cossey.

He believes she died of smoke inhalation.

Mudford says Williamson had a dog inside the home with her, but fire crews did not recover any animals.

Williamson could not get out of the house on her own due to a medical condition.

"She was basically home bound and alone," said Mudford.

Neighbors say Williamson had several space heaters inside the home, but the state fire marshal is still investigating the cause of the fire.
