Update: ETX murder victim identified, suspect dead from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound

UPDATE: MOUNT VERNON (KYTX) – The murder victim in Franklin County has been identified as 31-year-old Angie Jo Smith of Mt. Vernon.

Sheriff Ricky Jones says Smith died of apparent gunshot wounds. She was the mother of two children, ages two and seven. The children were not present at the time of the murder, according to Sheriff Jones.

The suspect wanted in connection with the early morning murder was found dead earlier today,

Franklin County assisted by the Texas Rangers is currently investigating a murder that took place just after midnight on Tuesday November 11, 2014. The shooting occurred at the Still Meadows RV Park located just south of Mount Vernon off of County Road 3070. A warrant for Murder was issued for 55-year-old Keith Lynn McDowell.

McDowell fled the scene before deputies arrived.

At approximately 7:55 AM today, Hopkins County Sheriff's Department received a call of a deceased person inside a car located on Hopkins County Road 2381 just North of Hopkins County Road 2394.

Upon deputies arriving on the scene it was confirmed the person was the murder suspect and the vehicle matched the description from earlier.

It appears McDowell had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Hopkins County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Rangers Service are conducting the investigation of the incident on County Rd. 2381

Both the bodies have been sent to Southwest I institute of Forensic Technology for autopsies
