TYLER (KYTX)-Edith Geske has been volunteering for the police department for eight years. She has a special title, the shredding queen.
"I love every minute of it, even every paper I'm running through that shredder I'm happy," Geske said.
Geske has had many jobs in her 93 years, but says her favorite thing to do is work with others.
"I like to help people. I like being around people, I love people and I come up here and I go home just happy," Geske said.
At the police department, Geske has a special boss, her daughter Candy Schaub. Schaub says she's proud to be the daughter of the shredding queen.
"Most volunteers come and shred one bag and they say oh I've worked so hard and i say ok but she comes in and I'm not kidding that hallway will be piled 2-3 bags high, sometimes she shreds 27 bags a day," Schaub said.
"Shredding is not too encouraging sometimes but it has to be done and if i can help somebody do something I'm happy," Geske said.
But Geske has had her struggles, she's a cancer survivor and has had 25 major surgeries.
"We've planned her funeral many many times and she told them the doctor I will live because I've got things to do and they said we don't know how she's done it but she's made it through all these years," Schaub said.
This lean, mean shredding machine plans on shredding until she can't shred anymore.
"Its just a joy for me to come up here and be with everybody and use my brain a little bit," Geske said.
Geske wasn't supposed to live past age 35 but she's beaten all odds. Tyler employees say they're lucky to have Geske on their team.
