TYLER (KYTX) -- The East Texas State Fair continues its tradition of honoring senior citizens on Thursday with its 42nd annual Senior Day.

All active adults 55 or older will be admitted free until 6 p.m. as the fair enters its 96th year.

Organizers have arranged a full day of entertainment, games and special recognitions.

"Senior Day at the Fair allows us the opportunity to thank our seniors for all they have done to make this community a better place to live," Kay Odom, senior day chairwoman, said. "We honor two outstanding area volunteers as our 'Seniors of the Year' to express our gratitude for their commitment to Tyler and East Texas."

This year's entertainment will include performances by Otis Webster, Texas College Drum Line, Texas College Choir, UT Tyler Guitar Ensemble, Theron Grainger Nursing Home's Silver Notes, Tyler Area Irish Dancers, guitar duo Bongo and the Point, Grace Community High School Drum Line, Faber & friends, Grace Community High School Stage Band and the UT Tyler Jazz Ensemble.

This year, attendees also can play bingo in Building B and take part in a domino tournament in Building C. The day's festivities will conclude with a concert on the Samsung Stage by Tyler's own Otis and The Metro Band at 7 p.m.

Admission for all ages is $5 at the gate on opening day. Discount armbands and discount gate tickets are on sale at area Brookshire's and Super 1 Foods stores until midnight.
