AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The inspection sticker on the windshields of Texans' vehicles will be eliminated this March.
Beginning March, 1, 2015, drivers will still be required to have their cars inspected, but now the inspection will serve as a requirement to renew a vehicle's registration. The Dallas Morning News reports that the initiative, which the state is calling "Two Steps, One Sticker" aims to improve safety, increase compliance and reduce fraud.
Since inspection and registration cycles do not necessarily match up for every vehicle, Texas officials will offer a schedule to help the two synch up. Texas hopes to smooth out any problems that may arise within the first year of implementation.
The newspaper reports that all rules and fees for registering a vehicle and passing inspection will stay the same
