Smith County Sheriff's Office investigating overnight shooting after man found dead in convenience store parking lot

The SCSO says the man sustained an apparent gunshot wound and the suspected shooter had left the area prior to authorities arriving at the location.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas — The Smith County Sheriff's Office is investigating an overnight shooting that left one person dead.

According to the SCSO, on Sunday around 2:10 a.m., deputies responded to a deadly conduct call at a convenience store located at 11812 Highway 64 West in Tyler.

When officials arrived on scene, they found a man dead inside a vehicle parked in front of the store.

The SCSO says the man sustained an apparent gunshot wound and the suspected shooter had left the area prior to authorities arriving at the location.

Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses and Crime Scene Investigators are processing evidence.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.

Justice of the Peace Pct. 5 Jon Johnson ordered the body of the victim be taken to Forensic Medical in Tyler for autopsy.
