GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - The Gregg County Sheriff's Office says it will maintain increased patrols around a Longview mosque after learning a threat made earlier this week against the facility was deemed not viable.
Sheriff's Deputy Joshua Tubb says local investigators received an anonymous tip Wednesday that someone made an online threat on social media against the Islamic Center of East Texas on Amy Street in north Longview.
The sheriff's office notified FBI agents in Texarkana about the threat and stepped up patrols around the facility, particularly during its hours of services. FBI agents have since notified local investigators that the threat was unviable.
"We receive tips constantly of all different types of criminal activity, and we encourage anybody to forward tips if they hear anything," Tubb said.
In a statement, Tubb said, "The Gregg County Sheriff's Office is committed to serving all citizens of Gregg County and will never fail in providing equal protection for everyone."
