TATUM, Texas — Services have been scheduled for a Tatum High School student who was killed in a one-vehicle wreck on Saturday.
According to Tatum Independent School District, the viewing for Hector Eduardo Duran, 18, will take place, Friday, March 8, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Tatum High School auditorium
Mass will be held at St. Peter Fisherman Catholic Church, on Saturday, March 8, at 2 p.m.
The family is welcoming the Tatum community to join them for the burial at Tatum Cemetery following the service.
They are requesting all attendees wear white and red, no black.
A GoFundMe has been created to help Duran's family with funeral expenses.
On Saturday, around 10:40 p.m., troopers responded to a wreck on County Road 2142, five miles west of Tatum.
The preliminary crash investigation revealed the driver of a pick-up truck, identified as Duran, was traveling north on CR 2142 at a high rate of speed when his vehicle ran off the roadway, to the left and struck multiple trees.
Duran, who DPS says was unrestrained, was thrown from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Pat McCrory.
Duran's body was taken to a Henderson funeral home and the crash remains under investigation.
"For those of you who knew Hector, we ask that you remember and celebrate his smile and kind spirit," Tatum ISD Superintendent J.P. Richardson said in a statement. "Hector always had a huge smile on his face. For those who did not know Hector, we ask that you respect our sadness and support us with your understanding."
