(USA TODAY) - Major League Baseball showed little tolerance Tuesday for Texas Rangers second basemanRougned Odor's punch of Jose Bautista, suspending Odor eight games, according to a person with direct knowledge of the suspension.
The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because MLB had not yet announced its discipline. Odor was expected to receive the harshest penalty among up to almost a dozen players, managers and coaches potentially facing discipline for Sunday's brawl. Announcements of additional punishments were expected later Tuesday.
Odor will appeal his suspension.
Odor said before Monday's game in Oakland, “I just play the game how I play. I just play the game to win games."
