Sen. Ted Cruz shares his "vision for the state of Texas" while campaigning in Longview

The start of Cruz's bus tour comes 10 days before his debate with Allred, which will be hosted on our sister station WFAA and air on CBS19.

LONGVIEW, Texas — With less than a month before Americans cast their ballots, Sen. Ted Cruz made a stop in Longview Saturday to campaign for re-election.

Cruz addressed a crowd of over 400 people gathered at Tia Juanita's  Fish Camp on Marshall Ave. in Longview as part of a tour across Texas as he campaigns for another term in the U.S Senate.

The senator spoke on several topics concerning voters in the 2024 election, taking a focus on the border and immigration while criticizing the Biden and Harris administration for their border policies.

Cruz also addressed his challenger for the U.S Senate seat representing Texas— Colin Allred— and what he says are "extreme" policies.

"Congressman Allred's record has been extreme liberal," Cruz said. "He's voted with Nancy Pelosi 100% of the time. His first four years in Congress, he's voted for open borders over and over and over again. He's voted for higher taxes. He's voted repeatedly for job killing regulations, attacking oil and gas, and attacking jobs in Texas, and he has voted repeatedly for letting violent criminals out of jail early. Those are values that are out of step with the values of Texas."

The start of Cruz's bus tour comes 10 days before his debate with Allred, which will be hosted on our sister station WFAA and air on CBS19. Cruz told CBS19 how he plans to prepare for the debate and what he hopes the outcome of the debate will be.

"I think the debate is going to be a great opportunity for Texans to see the difference between my record and congressman Colin Allred's record," Cruz said. "I think every election should be about each candidate's record and their vision for the state of Texas."
