On Saturday, around 10:40 p.m., troopers responded to a wreck on County Road 2142, five miles west of Tatum.

The preliminary crash investigation revealed the driver of a pick-up truck, identified as Hector Eduardo Duran, 18, of Tatum, was traveling north on CR 2142 at a high rate of speed when his vehicle ran off the roadway, to the left and struck multiple trees.

Duran, who DPS says was unrestrained, was thrown from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Pat McCrory.

Duran's body was taken to a Henderson funeral home.

The crash remains under investigation.

"For those of you who knew Hector, we ask that you remember and celebrate his smile and kind spirit," Tatum ISD Superintendent J.P. Richardson said in a statement. "Hector always had a huge smile on his face. For those who did not know Hector, we ask that you respect our sadness and support us with your understanding."

Funeral arrangements are pending.

A GoFundMe has been created to help Duran's family with funeral expenses.
