NEW YORK — EA Sports' new college football video game is really happening and its release is in sight.
The gaming company released the first trailer Thursday for "College Football 25," its first college football game since 2013, and announced it will be released this summer.
"We've seen the posts, the predictions, the doubts," the narrator of the ad -- a jersey designer -- says. "We get it. It's been a minute." The trailer ends with a shot of the jersey he was embroidering, now with "Yeah, it's really happening," on the back. A full reveal of the game is expected in May.
EA Sports first announced plans for a new college football video game back in 2021. A specific release date has not been announced.
The last college football game from EA Sports featured then-Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson on the cover of "NCAA Football 14."
Last year, the gaming company said it will allow student-athletes to opt in or opt out of having their likeness included. Those that opt in will receive compensation. Players who decide to opt out of EA Sports College Football will be replaced by generic avatars.
EA Sports at the time declined to discuss financial terms of the deal, such as whether more popular players will be compensated differently than less-known ones or whether their popularity will be tracked, and said its goal is to have all Division I FBS programs represented.
