Mt. Vernon High School mourning loss of three ETX teens

HOPKINS CO. (KYTX) - Students and faculty at Mt. Vernon High School are mourning the loss today of three students that were killed over the weekend in a one-vehicle accident.

Texas DPS says all three teens were pronounced dead at the scene after the vehicle they were in veered off the roadway and struck a tree.

The 2001 Ford Ranger burst into flames upon impact.

The Three East Texas teenagers are dead after a fiery, one vehicle crash on Hwy 19 near CR 4508 just north of Sulphur Springs, early Saturday morning.

According to DPS, the teenagers were from Mt Vernon. They were identified as 18-year-old Andrea Jordan Cook,17-year-old Nicole Barela and 16-year-old Shyanne Kull.

The crash occurred at 5:30 am March 21, 2015 on Hwy 19 near CR 4508, 2. miles north of Sulphur Springs in Hopkins County.

DPS said road conditions were wet at the time of the crash.

An investigation is ongoing.
