Marshall Police Officer injured Monday night identified

MARSHALL, Texas — A Marshall Police Officer that was injured Monday evening has been identified.

According to the Marshall Police Department, Officer Zach Lastra was responding to a welfare concern on the 2900 block of East Travis Street. There he made contact with Antonio Dejuan Trammel and learned that Trammel had an outstanding warrant for a parole violation.

While running from Officer Lastra, Trammel struck an exterior glass pane window which shattered and caused severe lacerations to Officer Lastra’s left forearm.

Officer Lastra called for an ambulance as another officer pursued Trammel.

Detective James Wayman was off duty when he heard the call and immediately went to assist.

Once on scene Detective Wayman noticed that Officer Lastra’s tourniquet had not completely stopped the bleeding. He grabbed his from the car and assisted until medical crews arrived.

Officer Lastra had emergency surgery to repair his imjuries.

Officer Lastra is expected to make a full recovery.

Trammel was located Tuesday afternoon and taken into custody. He was charged with evading arrest or detention with previous convictions.

“God answers prayer, and tourniquets save lives,” said Officer Lastra in a press release.
