LUFKIN - The Special Services Division Street Crimes Unit arrested two Lufkin men Tuesday night, April 19, 2016 on allegations of dealing crack cocaine and marijuana from a home on Culverhouse Street near Brandon Park.

37-year-old Jerone “Rone” Jones, and 34-year-old Jason “J Dawg” Wood, were taken into custody on drug charges following the raid on 1505 Culverhouse Street by the Special Response Team.

40-year-old Billy Starks Jr. of Lufkin, was also arrested on two Class C warrants, while two others were checked for warrants and released. The group was in the home’s living room at the time of the search warrant and went into custody without incident.

A search of the home uncovered an undisclosed amount of cash, a crack cocaine cookie, marijuana packaged for sale in “dime bags,” a small amount of methamphetamine and liquid Codeine in a baby bottle inside the refrigerator. A side-by-side ATV reported stolen out of Pasadena was also found outside the home.

The investigation into activities at the home is ongoing, according to Special Services Division Sgt. Travis Strickland.

“These guys set up shop a city block from Brandon Park which is why the charges are enhanced for selling narcotics in a Drug Free Zone,” Strickland said. “When they move their illegal operations close to where our children either play or go to school, this becomes an automatic priority for the Special Services Division, the Patrol Division and the police department as a whole.”

A few witnesses in the area attempted to harass and confront the officers over the arrests, Strickland said.

“Rest assured that officers know that these subjects are the very small majority of subjects living in the neighborhood,” he said. “The rest of the homeowners, citizens and neighbors are sick and tired of these subjects poisoning their community.”

Jones is charged with delivery of crack cocaine and possession of marijuana, while Wood is charged with delivery of marijuana in a drug-free zone, delivery of crack cocaine and possession of marijuana. Jones also had a warrant for failure to pay child support.
