Longview man sentenced to 12 years in prison for 2017 fatal racing wreck

LONGVIEW, Texas — A Longview man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a September 2017 wreck that killed two people.

According to Gregg County judicial records, Chad Malone, 21, of Longview, pleaded guilty on Monday to two counts of racing on a highway causing serious bodily injury and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on resulting in a 12-year sentence for each charge. The sentences will run concurrently.

In January, Malone waived his right to a jury trial.

Davin Davis, 21, of Hallsville, has had his trial scheduled for March 18, 2019.

Davis is charged with:

  • Manslaughter (2)
  • Racing on a highway causing serious bodily injury (3)
  • Aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury

According to the officials, on Friday, September 22, 2017, around 8:30 p.m., police were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash in the 300 block of North Eastman Road (U.S. 259). 

The LPD says Malone's car collided with a pickup truck driven by Christina Wilson, of Harleton. Wilson was ejected from her truck and taken to a local hospital.

Malone was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. Malone's passengers, Rylee Malone, 17, and Meshebia Johnson, 17, died as a result of the crash.

Police concluded Malone and Davis were racing when the collision occurred.
