Wood County Jail inmate pronounced dead after being found unresponsive

The cause of the death remains unknown at this time, the sheriff's office said.

QUITMAN, Texas — A Wood County Jail inmate was pronounced dead Thursday after they were found unresponsive. 

According to the Wood County Sheriff's Office, the jail staff began giving life-saving measures after the inmate was found unresponsive. EMS arrived and took the inmate to the hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. 

The cause of the death remains unknown at this time. The Texas Rangers will be conducting the investigation into the death, according to the WCSO. 

The inmate, whose name has not been revealed yet, had been booked into the Wood County Jail Wednesday on an injury to a child charge, the sheriff's office said.
