Wonderland of Lights brings out hundreds on opening night

Hundreds of attendees filled Downtown to witness the Olympian's performance and to join in on the holiday cheer.

MARSHALL, Texas — The time has come for a winter wonderland transformation.

"It's sort of what makes a small town, a small town. There are fewer traditions that feel a small-town tradition in other places," attendee Drew Frazier said.

And that small town is Marshall Texas where they’ve had the tradition of Wonderland of Lights for 37 years.

"It just kind of kicks off the season and Marshall always puts on so many pretty lights that it’s kind of the start of the season," attendee Edie Cruz said.

In addition to the festive attractions Marshall has to offer, 1994 Olympic gold medalist figure skater Oksana Baiul made a special appearance on the rink, showcasing her skills on the ice.

"I dedicated this number to my mother, so 30 years after, it means so much to me to be here, to make people happy. I have a gift from God, and the most important thing is to share it with the others," Oksana Baiul said.

Hundreds of attendees filled downtown to witness the Olympian's performance and to join in on the holiday cheer.

"It brings everybody together as a community, not as just one but as a whole, it brings everybody closer especially like to make you feel like a family," attendee Tory Eckols said.
