HAWKINS, Texas — March is Women's History Month and Jarvis Christian University is honoring its second female president, Dr. Glenell Lee-Pruitt.
Jarvis Christian University Board of Trustees selected Dr. Lee-Pruitt to serve as the university's president following the retirement of Dr. Lester C. Newman.
Prior to her role as president, Dr. Lee-Pruitt had served as second in command and as a member of the executive cabinet since August 2012, according to the Jarvis Christian University website.
Dr. Lee-Pruitt said she "wants to continue the great work that Jarvis has done for 112 years. We want to be known as a university where we're accessible, approachable and available for our students."
According to the university website Dr. Lee-Pruitt, "has been instrumental in increasing student enrollment, increasing articulation agreements, and establishing the Renaissance Program for Adult Learners on the JCU campus and the JCU Dallas Teaching Site. She has also provided leadership in enhancing academic program offerings, which include online degree completion programs and two online graduate programs. "
As for advice to other women who are breaking boundaries in their industries, Dr. Lee-Pruitt said, "be who you are, believe in yourself and when there's a open door, step into it."
