VAN ZANDT COUNTY, Texas — An East Texas woman is dead after being hit by pickup truck in Van Zandt County
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Thursday, Oct. 26, around 12:45 p.m., troopers responded to a one-vehicle crash on US 80, just east of Grand Saline.
The preliminary investigation revealed a pickup, driven by Douglas Pickering, 37, of Quitman, was headed east on US 80. At the same time, a pedestrian, identified as Autumn McLane, 23, of Grand Saline, was walking in the eastbound lane of US 80. DPS says Pickering tried to avoid hitting McLane, but was unable to.
McLane was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
