GILMER, Texas — Upshur County Sheriff Larry Webb has become the Republican nominee for the November general election.
Webb came out the majority vote in the two-way race against retired Gilmer Police Department Chief Mark Case. He will face Democratic challenger Brandon “Bear” Williams in November.
Webb has served as sheriff since 2017. According to the Longview News-Journal, Webb worked for the Longview Police Department from 1995 to 2016 as a special weapons and tactics officer, K-9 handler and supervisor before becoming sheriff.
Case worked for the Gladewater Police Department from 1990 to 1996. He then went to the Gilmer Police Department, where he ultimately became the police chief in 2014 before retiring in 2022.
Williams spent eight years as an Upshur County Sheriff’s Office deputy. He was a teacher at Gilmer High School, teaching criminal justice and he served as a school security officer. He became a full-time officer with the Gilmer Police Department in January, the News-Journal reported.
