White Oak ISD school board expected to discuss resignation of superintendent

In a White Oak community Facebook page, Dr. William Paul said his proposed resignation "isn't the end of the world."

WHITE OAK, Texas — The White Oak ISD school board is expected to discuss the resignation of Superintendent Dr. William Paul during a special-called meeting Friday afternoon.

Board trustees are scheduled to meet at noon Friday during closed session to "deliberate the appointment, employment, evaluation, reassignment, duties, discipline, or dismissal of a public offer or employee; or to hear a complaint or charge against an officer or employee" concerning the resignation of the superintendent and the superintendent search process.

The board is set to take action after the closed meeting.

In a White Oak community Facebook page, Paul said his proposed resignation "isn't the end of the world." He added White Oak has a great community and school, and he's proud of his time and accomplishments made at the school district.

"We have a really good board. I am a good superintendent. Both of those things can be true simultaneously and the result not change," Paul said. "There are always unknowns in these situations.  The people that make schools what they are (parents, students, teachers) aren’t going anywhere and we have the best!"

Paul noted in the statement that when people see lawyers, they assume the worst but lawyers can serve "a ton of purposes."

"God is guiding this.  He brought me here and now He says it’s time for something else.  There are a lot of positives for my family and myself in this situation," Paul said. "Please don’t rip each other apart over this. Trust the board. Trust me."

Paul started as superintendent in April 3, 2023 as the 2022-23 school year was coming to a close. Paul succeeded Brian Gray, who had announced his retirement from White Oak ISD in late December 2022, according to a Longview News-Journal article. Paul previously worked as superintendent at Windthorst ISD, northwest of Dallas.
