Water line extension project to improve water pressure, quality in north part of Tyler

The existing water line on Highway 271 ends south of Loop 323. The project will extend the water main north past Loop 323 before connecting to the line on FM 14.

TYLER, Texas — The Tyler City Council on Wednesday approved funding for an engineering agreement to extend the water main at US Highway 271 to reach Farm-to-Market Road 14 and North Broadway Ave.

According to a news release, the council approved an engineering agreement with C.T. Brannon Corporation for $420,285 to extend the 12-inch diameter water main. The existing water line on Highway 271 ends south of Loop 323. The project will extend the water main north past Loop 323 before turning west to connect to the 16-inch water line on FM 14.

North Broadway Ave. currently has several undersized mains that are not looped, the city of Tyler said. The project will include replacing aging smaller lines with a new 12-inch water line and connect the dead end together.

City officials said this extension will increase the water pressure and improve water quality in north and northeast areas of Tyler. These efforts are funded by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, which provided federal money to local governments in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and capital funds.

The preliminary engineering assessment shows about 10,100 linear feet of water line for the Highway 271 segment and an additional 3,300 linear feet for the North Broadway stretch will be needed for the project.

Engineering is expected to complete by March 2025.
