LONGVIEW, Texas — Voters chose Kristen Ishihara as the next mayor of Longview following Saturday's election.
She defeated District 1 City Councilman Temple Carpenter in a two-person race. Ishihara received 4,103 votes, or 74.65%, while Carpenter received 1,393, or 25.35%, according to unofficial election results for the city of Longview. The city notes that additional mail-in ballots could affect the final tally.
Ishihara is an attorney and former Longview District 4 city councilwoman, serving from 2014 to 2023. This is the first time that Longview has a new mayor since Andy Mack took office in 2015. He reached his maximum three-year, three-terms limit.
According to the city of Longview website, Ishihara will be sworn into office on Thursday, May 23.
The results will be official once they are canvassed during a special meeting on May 15 at 2 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber.
