Van Zandt police on the lookout for woman who escaped custody

Eva Crutchfield slipped out of her handcuffs and fled into the woods after being placed under arrest for burglary.

CANTON — The Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office is searching for a woman who escaped custody during an arrest.

According to the sheriff's office, 36-year-old Eva Crutchfield of Edgewood had been placed under arrest at about in Canton for allegedly committing a burglary. The arrest happened at the 12000 block of of Highway 19 at about 8 p.m.

While the arresting deputy was searching her vehicle, Crutchfield slipped off her handcuffs and ran into the woods.

The Van Zandt County Sheriff's Department, along with nearby police departments and troopers with DPS, searched the area, but could not find Crutchfield.

Crutchfield has two felony warrants against her, one for burglary and the other for escape.
